The athletics department deficit at Florida A&M University — already more than $6 million — is expected to increase by at least $1.3 million during the next school year. And that’s a best-case scenario. FAMU trustees, while reviewing the department’s plan for addressing the deficit and approving the Rattler Boosters’ budget during a Wednesday teleconference, pledged to change their approach to overseeing the budget for athletics. They said they wanted more time to study the plans being offered to better address the ongoing deficit, and to be more involved in making fundamental changes to the way the athletics department operates.
