At Grand Rapids Community College, they’re the minority – students who are attending college but don’t have a high school diploma or GED. But starting this week, it’s going to get a bit more difficult for students to pursue such a path. That’s because new rules prohibit students without a GED or high school diploma from receiving federal student aid. “It’s unfortunate,” said Jill Nutt, who recently retired as executive director of Student Financial Services at GRCC. “I do think it shuts out a population that needs higher education desperately.”
