A natural history museum at the University of Northern Iowa is bidding farewell as budget cuts force the closure of the 120-year-old institution. Dozens of families turned out on Thursday to check out the animal exhibits and other displays. Many children carried balloons and one asked museum director Sue Grosboll why — if the museum was so cool — she was shutting it down. “I’m not shutting it down,” Grosboll said. “Somebody else is, and I don’t know why.” UNI announced earlier this year that it would close the museum by July 1 and relocate some of its collection to save $200,000 in staff costs annually and avoid having to fund major repairs to one building.
