With state budget cuts and the rising cost of technology, many families are digging deeper into their pockets and students are watching their debt pile up as school expenses soar. Some parents say the investment is forcing families to cut back and students to work while attending school. Financial aid officers and guidance counselors say there’s a way to plan and lower the load. “I think (the price of higher education is) too expensive,” said Robert Heywood, a guidance counselor at Rhinebeck High School. “I think, unfortunately, it’s beyond what most families can reasonably afford at this time, especially with the difficulties in the economy. It couldn’t be going up at a worse time for people.”
