The University of Colorado -- where nearly one in three undergraduates on the Boulder campus have federal Stafford loans -- was among few organizations that publicly reported lobbying in favor of a measure to keep interest rates from doubling to 6.8 percent. On Friday, Congress passed legislation to keep interest rates at 3.4 percent on Stafford loans. If Congress didn't act, the rates could have doubled to 6.8 percent on Sunday.
