With months to go before the next legislative session, another standoff is looming between New Hampshire lawmakers and university administrators, and once again, the state’s college students could be caught in the middle. Officials at the University of New Hampshire, who have raised tuition for 22 straight years, pledged to freeze in-state rates if lawmakers restore the $50 million that was cut from the university system last year. UNH President Mark Huddleston made that pledge in an interview with The Telegraph. But with state revenues still suffering and a lack of trust in the university system’s ability to correct inefficiencies, lawmakers don’t foresee restoring the funds anytime soon.
