Community college students scramble to add classes - DAYNA STRAEHLEY, Press Enterprise

Riverside City College student Andrew Chen, 21, of Riverside, waits outside a statistics class. He went to eight different sections of a class, trying to get into one. His plight is one many California community college students are facing as class offerings dwindle and the students who want them increase. Community college classes could face big cuts, April 17, 2011. Community college students went back for the fall semester this month and more found themselves waiting for classes. “I’m on the wait list and I didn’t get any of my classes,” said Paulina Robles, an 18-year-old Murrieta resident sitting in a courtyard at Riverside City College this week. What’s become usual in fall semester — students waiting for open space in classes — has grown in scope as colleges burn through reserve funds used in recent years to add classes and students for which they didn’t get state funding.
