FGCU president outlines budget cuts - Dave Breitenstein, News-Press

Budget cuts at FGCU no longer are just skin deep. “To use the ‘cutting the fat’ analogy, we were at bone a long time ago,” said FGCU President Wilson Bradshaw. “Unfortunately, another $3.6 million is a lot more bone.” On Tuesday, Bradshaw provided trustees with its first detailed list of cutbacks for the 2012-13 academic year. Aside from spending less on travel, computer upgrades and student recruitment, the university has trimmed its workforce by 108 positions, mostly vacant staff positions and student jobs. Only one individual was let go for budget reasons. The university also reduced salaries for 11 vacant positions. With little light at the end of the budget tunnel, Bradshaw said those jobs essentially have been wiped off the organizational chart.
