UNH president Huddleston lays out re-funding strategy - Paul Briand, Seacoast Online

University of New Hampshire President Mark Huddleston on Thursday laid out a plan to try to convince the Legislature to restore the $38 million cut from the institution's budget. At the same time, Huddleston went through accomplishments of the past and hopes for the university's future during his annual State of the University address. The funding issue is a high priority, especially given that the general election, which includes contests for a new governor as well as the state House and Senate, is about four weeks away. Huddleston, whose academic background is in political science, noted at the top of his remarks of New Hampshire's status as a swing state in the presidential election. "I am actually delighted that New Hampshire is a battleground state this year. I like campaigns," he said. Huddleston detailed the "UNH Works" campaign to restore the funding, which the Legislature reduced by about 50 percent to state-supported colleges and universities. http://www.seacoastonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20121012/NEWS/210120378/-1/NEWSMAP
