Art center threatened by college budget cuts - J.L. Sousa, Register
Students and teachers are rallying to save the Community Education Center on Menlo Avenue from closure as Napa Valley College continues to grapple with state budget cuts. After appealing to the college board of trustees, “I was told if we can come up with a plan to be self-sustaining and cover the operating costs they will keep us open for spring semester, which begins at the end of January,” she said. “The college really doesn’t want to close us down, but is strapped financially,” added Donahower, who is leading an effort to raise community awareness along with the necessary funds. “The college is facing massive budget cuts,” said Judi Watkins, associate dean of the Upper Valley campus, who administers the fee-based and non-credit classes, including those at the Menlo center. “We’re down to the bone.
