Santa Monica College Announces Partial Return of Winter Session - Jason Islas, Santa Monica Lookou

With the passing of Proposition 30 and what officials are calling “an improving state economy,” Santa Monica College announced that it would go ahead with its six-week winter session which was originally slated to be cancelled due to State budget cuts. The college will offer at least 250 state-funded classes starting January 2, officials announced Tuesday, adding that the college's efforts to seek private funding continue. The passing of Proposition 30 “didn't give us new money, but it gave us stability,” said Don Girard, SMC's senior director of Government Relations & Institutional Communications. In an official statement issued Tuesday, SMC President Chui L. Tsang said, “For the good of our students and for the good of our State, we are acting now to restore our winter class offerings.” http://www.surfsantamonica.com/ssm_site/the_lookout/news/News-2012/November-2012/11_21_2012_Santa_Monica_College_Announces_Partial_Return_of_Winter_Session.html
