Student Viewpoint: Don’t forget 2-year colleges - Matt Chatham, Albany Democrat-Herald
Our aim in attending was to draw attention to significant cuts to the state’s community college budget: since the 2007-09 budget, funding has fallen by 21 percent, from $500 million to $395 million in 2011-13 — which is a cut of about 44 percent per full-time student, because enrollments are up at the very same time. LBCC’s tuition has been increasing for several years and now stands at $96 per credit. More than a dozen students and some instructors from LBCC attended the meeting, wearing shirts bearing the “Vote OR Vote” campaign’s logo to show solidarity in favor of higher education.
