UNLV seeks to appeal to qualified student population - UNLV Rebel

After enduring several years of budget cuts, UNLV administrators are now looking at ways to increase enrollment and encourage students to continue their academic career at the university until graduation. UNLV has suffered a drop in student enrollment since the state of Nevada began decreasing its monetary support to the institution four years ago. But now that President Neal Smatresk has asserted that UNLV is on “firm fiscal ground,” campus administrators are actively trying to encourage students to attend the university, as well as prevent students from dropping out prior to graduation. UNLV lost approximately 700 faculty and staff in the last four fiscal years as a result of a $73 million cut in state support during that time period. The university’s student headcount — the number of students enrolled in academic credit courses — was also affected due to the cuts. http://www.unlvrebelyell.com/2012/11/08/increased-enrollment-retention-focus-of-latest-university-initiative/
