Salem Community College to cut sports programs from college budget - Michael Williams, South Jersey Times
Salem Community College will be cutting three sports programs from the college starting in the next academic year to help trim costs from its operating budget, college officials said. SCC will no longer field teams in men’s soccer, softball and golf, following a decision from the college board of trustees to reduce operating costs at the college while trying to avoid any impact on academic programs or support services for students. According to Director of Athletics and Student Leadership Karen Freed, the three eliminated programs will reduce the SCC athletics budget by approximately $45,000 per year — which includes costs for salaries, travel, equipment, game-day costs, and other operating costs.
