Edinboro University media, student groups face cuts - SEAN MCCRACKEN, Erie Times-News
Edinboro University of Pennsylvania's student media organizations could be facing a substantial reduction in funding at the start of the 2013-14 school year that would eliminate pay for students and could force the campus newspaper to cut back on its printing schedule. Meagen Finnerty is editor-in-chief of the Spectator, Edinboro University's weekly student newspaper. She said the Edinboro University Student Government Association's budget proposal would drop the paper's funding from $48,000 for the current school year to just less than $24,000 for 2013-14. That reduction in funding would eliminate all pay for the paper's staff members -- there are about a dozen paid positions at the paper -- and would force the newspaper to print fewer copies. That could mean changing from a weekly paper to printing twice monthly or less.
