With furloughs, Cayuga Community College looking to cut $567K in costs by end of fiscal year - Kelsey Durham, The Citizen

Amid the recent proposition asking its union employees to agree to furloughs to help cut costs, Cayuga Community College released some of its budget information late Tuesday, showing that the college is still looking to reduce spending by about $567,000 by Aug. 31. CCC said in a statement that it has been working to reduce its spending in the 2012-13 budget by $1.5 million by the end of the current fiscal year in August. So far, through reductions to employee retirements and travel, as well as furlough days accepted by the president and other executive staff, the college has been able to cut $933,000 in costs. But a large spending gap still remains. Although the number of furlough days the school wants its staff to take has not yet been decided upon, CCC President Daniel Larson said Wednesday that if the furloughs are taken, it would almost bring the school to its goal of $1.5 million in budget cuts. http://harvardmagazine.com/2013/05/harvardx-and-edx-online-learning-update
