Furloughs for civilians at U.S. Army College to start July 8: Hundreds of workers will be furloughed on Mondays - WGAL
About 660 civilian employees at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle are directly affected by the federal budget cuts, known as the sequester. They just learned they will be furloughed every Monday from July 8 until the end of September. The workers will not get paid for those days, which results in a 20-percent pay cut each of those weeks. The commanding general at the barracks, Tony Cucolo, briefed hundreds of the civilians Wednesday morning. Originally, the furloughs were supposed to have started by now, but the Department of Defense cut the number in half and pushed the start date to July. Cucolo called the furloughs "painful."
