South Carolina State University is asking state lawmakers for $17 million to bail it out of its current financial woes. President Thomas Elzey recently notified the S.C. Budget and Control Board that the university not only has a budget deficit of $4.4 million, but it’s also facing a $13 million cash flow shortage and will be unable to pay its bills by March. Payments for utilities and other vendors and contractors will be delayed, but the university will meet payroll through June 2014, Elzey says. http://thetandd.com/news/local/scsu-says-it-needs-million/article_84341106-991b-11e3-b111-001a4bcf887a.html
