S.C. State cuts 8 jobs in move to save money - Dale Linder-Altman, Times and Democrat
Days after being officially inaugurated as the 11th president of South Carolina State University, Thomas Elzey is ending a number of temporary employment positions as part of a deficit recovery plan he recently submitted to the S.C. Budget and Control part. “Eight employees were given notice last week, three from parking lot police and five from fleet management,” Vice President for External Affairs and Communications Sonja Bennett said Monday. The jobs end Tuesday and will save the university $67,000, she said. S.C. State currently has 232 temporary employees and some of them are essential to the well being of the university, Bennett said. However, the administration will continue to look at those positions and other options across the board.
