SUNY, CUNY unions call for more college aid Kyle Hughes, NYSNYS News

SUNY and CUNY union leaders are calling for more state aid for higher education, saying Gov. Andrew Cuomo is advancing a plan to give prison inmates colleges degrees even as students across New York are facing deep cuts. “The state is simply not paying its fair share of the costs for quality higher education,” United University Professions President Frederick Kowal said. “This is the third straight year that SUNY’s budget is flat and once again as you’ve heard from the students themselves, they’re paying a greater and greater share of what is supposed to be a public good.” He says SUNY’s state-supported budget has been gutted in recent years, as both public systems have lost nearly $2 billion in state funding. http://www.oneidadispatch.com/general-news/20140303/suny-cuny-unions-call-for-more-college-aid
