U of S president says Sask. budget won't help projected deficit - Lasia Kretzel, CJME

The president of the University of Saskatchewan is happy to see the provincial government put more funding into post secondary but the increase does little to ease the school’s financial woes. Wednesday’s budget announced $817.8 million, a $24 million dollar increase from last year, for the Ministry of Advanced Education. These funds included a $12.3 million increase for Saskatchewan universities operating costs, a two per cent increase. “In a year when the minister of finance (said) the budget overall was a reduction, the universities got a two per cent increase sending a very clear message that the government appreciates the important role that is played by the universities in the future of the economy,” Ilene Busch-Vishniac said, adding the increase was exactly what the U of S predicted. http://cjme.com/story/u-s-president-says-sask-budget-wont-help-projected-deficit/288247
