House wants more money for colleges - Christian M. Wade, Eagle-Tribune

Students at the five-campus University of Massachusetts could see tuition and fees frozen for a second year under a state budget proposal that includes hefty increases for higher education. Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives unveiled their version of the fiscal 2015 state budget yesterday. The $36.1 billion spending plan increases aid for local governments and schools, increases funds for mental health and substance abuse programs, and doesn’t raise taxes. The House budget also pumps nearly $519 million more into the UMass system in fiscal 2015, which begins July 1. http://www.eagletribune.com/local/x1445038619/House-wants-more-money-for-colleges
