College to cut 23 positions amid budget shortfall & Pay cuts for top administrators - WPTZ

Paul Smith’s College President John Mills says they have to cut 23 full-and part-time faculty, staff, and administrative positions and implement other cost-saving measures to balance the budget. According to the press release, layoffs will make up 11 of the cuts and the remaining 12 will be composed of open positions and from people who voluntarily left. The cuts will impact 12 percent of the 190-person workforce at the school. Mills says as many as 100 fewer students are expected to enroll in the fall and the school relies heavily on tuition. And without cutting jobs, they cannot balance the budget. In response to the enrollment dip, the board declared a state of financial exigency, which allows it to cancel or renegotiate some contracts. http://www.wptz.com/news/vermont-new-york/plattsburgh/college-to-cut-23-positions-amid-budget-shortfall/25970932
