Heartland plans for possible 'doomsday' budget - Lenore Sobota, Pantagraph
With a possible “doomsday” state budget that could result in a cut of up to 10 percent in state funding for community colleges if the temporary income tax is rolled back, Heartland Community College is hoping for the best and building a budget based on a 5 percent state funding cut. Heartland President Rob Widmer told the board at its meeting Tuesday on the Normal campus that there still would be time to take into account the actual cut — if any — when a final budget is approved in September. “This is a bit of a cautionary move here,” Widmer said of the 5 percent assumption. “This is one of those places we do make adjustments over the summer."
