Louisiana has cut higher education more than most, according to think tank - Andrew Boyd, The Times-Picayune
Louisiana has cut funding for higher education by 43.2 percent per student since 2008, a larger decrease than any state but Arizona, says a new report by the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities. Louisiana certainly wasn't alone in trimming spending on higher education over the last six years. The center said 48 states -- all except Alaska and North Dakota -- are spending less on higher education than they did before the recession six years ago. But Louisiana's reduction of $5,004 per students is higher than any of the 50 states. Only three states -- Louisiana, Arizona and South Carolina -- have cut spending per student by a margin of more 40 percent over the last six years.
