U of L board approves tuition increases, 'bad' budget - Ed Green, Louisville Business
U of L President James Ramsey said during the meeting that the budget process this year was difficult, given the ongoing state budget cuts for higher education institutions.
He noted that funding for both U of L and the University of Kentucky's base funding is being cut by 1.5 percent in the state's 2014-15 budget. The state's total funds and appropriations to U of L will decline by $24.3 million, to $139.9 million in 2014-15. That is about 28.1 percent of the overall budget. Ramsey called the university's spending plan "another bad budget" but said it reflects the reality that the state economy still hasn't bounced back completely since the years of the recession.
