Walla Walla Community College wrestles with budget crunch - Ben Wentz, Union-Bulletin

Despite years of belt-tightening — freezing wages, delaying new programs and eliminating administrative positions — Walla Walla Community College is in a nearly half-million dollar hole as it prepares to build a budget for the 2014-15 school year. The Washington state Legislature elected not to raise tuition for the second half of the 2013-15 budget biennium or increase funding levels, and rising costs across the board have left the college needing about $450,000 in savings to balance its budget this year. That’s not a huge amount compared to the college’s roughly $28.6 million overall operating budget, but WWCC vice president of financial services Davina Fogg said making up the difference between revenue and expenditures will be tough given how tight the budget was already. http://union-bulletin.com/news/2014/may/07/walla-walla-community-college-wrestles-budget-crun/
