7 percent tuition increase at Athens State University was 'only step we could take,' president says - Kelly Kazek, AL.com
Alabama -Athens State University trustees approved a 7 percent tuition hike at a Wednesday meeting to take effect fall semester, a move President Bob Glenn said was "the only step we could take." "The University Budget Advisory Committee worked diligently to recommend a 7 percent increase on the lower end of the percentage range," said Mike McCoy, vice president for financial affairs. "We did not want the burden to be too great for our students and worked to find ways to cut back without losing integral staffing or programming." The increase will take the tuition rate at Athens State from $167 to $179 per semester hour for traditional coursework and from $240 to $257 per semester hour for distance-learning classes.
