$77M trimmed from Maryland state budget - David Collins, WBAL-TV

There won’t be layoffs, but 61 vacant positions are being eliminated: 36 from the University of Maryland System, including a half-dozen from Morgan State University, as well as some non-faculty contractual jobs at Baltimore Community College. From state agency budgets, $56 million will be cut. There's a $10 million reduction for the university system, which is not expected to affect tuition rates. The state is in a position to use more federal money than anticipated, which frees up state dollars. "Stop pretending that we've made it through the thickest because we haven't," Franchot said. "I think it’s time to take the political spin about Maryland's fiscal and economic environment and just pack it away." http://www.wbaltv.com/politics/77m-trimmed-from-maryland-state-budget/26767030
