Arizona State University in Talks to Take Over Thunderbird School - MELISSA KORN, Wall Street Journal

"This looks and feels more like a venture capital company buying a distressed asset, rather than a more genteel merger of educational enterprises," said Tim Westerbeck, president of higher-education consultancy Eduvantis LLC, which hasn't worked with Thunderbird. He said such a deal structure is new to the business-school sector, but he expects more like it in coming years "as the business-education marketplace is reinvented." One issue that remains undetermined is what would happen to Thunderbird's faculty. The school may be required to declare a "financial exigency" to nullify contracts with some tenured professors, according to two people familiar with the matter. Thunderbird has 47 full-time faculty and 29 adjunct faculty, according to its website. http://online.wsj.com/articles/arizona-state-in-talks-to-take-over-thunderbird-school-1404416849
