Time to focus on higher ed budget - the Bismark Tribune
It’s becoming apparent that higher education budget talks won’t be easy. The state Board of Higher Education approved a budget in June calling for a tuition freeze at the 11 North Dakota University System institutions, contingent on funding to increase employees’ salaries and benefits. Then, last week, the Legislature’s Higher Education Funding Committee recommended lawmakers fund a tuition freeze at the state’s two-year colleges but left out four-year campuses. This was another example of the divide between the board and the Legislature. Some were offended by the board’s proposal to freeze tuition at all 11 schools in return for an increase in salaries and benefits.
