UMC proposes tax increase to offset multimillion-dollar budget deficit - Bill Melugin, KFOX el Paso

University Medical Center may have to turn to taxpayers to get some help for the budget shortfall. As KFOX14 previously reported, UMC CEO Jim Valenti said budget issues such as the $75 million the El Paso Children's Hospital owes UMC was part of the reason why UMC laid off 56 employees last week. In a budget meeting on Monday, Valenti said a tax increase is necessary to pay for the Children's Hospitals subsidies, and UMC employees may see 15 furlough days next year. http://www.kfoxtv.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/umc-proposes-tax-increase-offset-multimilliondollar-budget-deficit-5807.shtml
