President Gamble asks University of Alaska regents to reconsider bonus - Jeff Richardson, News Miner
University of Alaska President Pat Gamble acknowledged Tuesday that a hefty bonus in his new contract has become a distraction and said he's asked the Board of Regents to revisit it next week during a budget meeting in Anchorage. Regents approved a contract extension for Gamble in June, including a $320,000 bonus if he remains until the deal ends in May 2016. The bonus is equivalent to Gamble's annual salary. That deal has generated considerable backlash from the public, UA employees and students, particularly since it comes amid roughly $26 million in budget cuts throughout the university system. An online petition that calls the bonus "fiscally and morally irresponsible" had gathered more than 1,400 signatures by Tuesday.
