U.Va. board prepares for budget cuts - DEREK, Daily Progress

The University of Virginia is preparing to make budget cuts to help the state make up a $2.4 billion shortfall in the current biennium. Administrators presented the university’s Board of Visitors with their plan to meet Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s mandate to cut 5 percent of the current fiscal year budget and discussed the possibility of a 7 percent cut next year. But the cuts were a recurring topic. Patrick D. Hogan, chief operating officer, said the university will meet this year’s mandate from McAuliffe — about $6.5 million in cuts — by finding ways to conserve energy, reaching a deal on office supplies with a single vendor and leaving some vacant positions unfilled. http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/state-regional/uva-board-prepares-for-budget-cuts/article_3cf9837a-3a33-11e4-837d-0017a43b2370.html
