Colleges across West Virginia are firing employees, eliminating and merging positions and making other cutbacks to compensate for a reduction of more than $42 million in state funding for higher education over the past two years. At West Virginia University, about 13 employees have been fired as part of a Reduction in Force for this budget year, and more than 100 positions have been left vacant, according to WVU spokesman John Bolt.
