Brookdale looks to layoffs to fill budget gap - Amanda Oglesby, Asbury Park Press

Declining enrollment and lower revenue will lead to staff reductions at Brookdale Community College. College officials anticipate a $8.5 million hole to fill in next year’s budget. To close the gap, they are looking to change “staffing levels,” reduce spending, and pull money from the college’s reserves. The college’s enrollment has been on a steady downward slide for years. Enrollment fell from 12,699 students in 2011 to 11,229 this fall. That is expected to drop even further next year, down to 10,995 students, according to college projections. As a result, the college’s overall budget is also slipping and is expected to drop 2.75 percent, from $87.7 million to $85.3 million by 2015. http://www.app.com/story/news/education/college-news/2014/11/03/brookdale-layoffs-budget-gap/18437485/
