Faculty group fears deep budget cuts to arts, sciences - Nick Martin, Winnipeg Free Press

University of Manitoba professors fear basic arts and sciences will be hit hard by looming, deep budget cuts. "The areas that are going to be hit are going to be hit very badly," said Prof. Thomas Kucera, president of the U of M Faculty Association. UMFA believes funding increases to arts and sciences over the last decade trail well behind increases to operating funds of other programs, including the money for legal services and for external fundraising, Kucera said. President David Barnard has warned the campus the overall budget for 2015-16 and for the following academic year face cuts of four per cent each year, though the pain will not be spread equally across the campus. Consultation this winter will help decide what gets cut and by how much. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/faculty-group-fears-deep-budget-cuts-to-arts-sciences-283670121.html
