UMSL blames Ferguson unrest for hiring freeze - KSDK

The University of Missouri-St. Louis has announced it's enacting a hiring freeze, and it blames the nearby unrest in Ferguson for a budget shortfall. Spring enrollment is down and the debt UMSL thought it could have paid off by now is still around, which traces back to the trouble in Ferguson. UMSL Chancellor Tom George says the North County-based University went into the academic year with a budget shortfall of two million dollars, but a projected enrollment increase for the fall would have taken care of that. In August, after Michael Brown's shooting and the events that followed, enrollment took a hit and the debt remains. Now, spring enrollment is down by about 600 students, or six percent, from this time last year. http://www.ksdk.com/story/news/education/2014/12/10/umsl-blames-ferguson-unrest-for-hiring-freeze/20210017/
