State tuition increases tough on students - Tracey McManus, Augusta Chronicle

Along with the higher costs of providing services and a push to create new academic programs, higher tuition at Georgia’s state colleges and universities is a result of years of the state Legislature cutting funds to the higher education budget. Even when the state increased higher education funding by 3 percent in fiscal year 2015 over the previous year, that $1.94 billion budget translated to per-student funding being 52 percent lower than in inflation-adjusted 2001, according to a 2014 report by the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute. http://chronicle.augusta.com/news/education/2015-04-18/state-tuition-increases-tough-students
