UNO President Peter Fos says school facing substantial budget cuts; urges engagement - Jed Lipinski, The Times-Picayune

University of New Orleans President Peter Fos is urging UNO faculty, staff and students to stay engaged during the legislative session as Gov. Bobby Jindal and lawmakers wrestle with a $1.6 billion budget shortfall. UNO faces a $23.6 million cut in state funds in the next fiscal year -- a drop of 82 percent -- should no money be found to help fill the budget deficit. If lawmakers pass all of Jindal's budget proposals, Fos noted, UNO would still sustain a $7.5 million cut, or 26 percent of its state funding. "At the risk of stating the obvious, both of these proposed figures are enormous and challenging," Fos wrote in an email sent Friday afternoon (April 10). http://www.nola.com/education/index.ssf/2015/04/uno_president_budget_cuts.html
