Budget shortfall would harm UConn culture of innovation - Edward Courchaine, New Haven Register

In his budget, the governor proposed a cut to UConn that would result in a deficit for the university of about $40 million. I was happy to read that the legislature’s Appropriations Committee voted to restore about $26 million, but I suspect that number could still drop dramatically between now and the end of the session. Either way, if we allow the state’s allocation to UConn to produce a shortfall in the university budget that is well into the millions, we run the risk that students like me will not get to take the classes that have a profound impact on our way of thinking. We risk producing alumni who are not equipped to handle the complex social issues of the real world like inequality and oppression. http://www.nhregister.com/opinion/20150602/forum-budget-shortfall-would-harm-uconn-culture-of-innovation
