Faculty, students worry about the effects of most recent community college layoffs - ELLA NILSEN, Concord Monitor

Last month, the news of another round of faculty cuts at three of New Hampshire’s community colleges – White Mountains Community College in Berlin, Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth and Lakes Region Community College in Laconia – sparked a fresh wave of controversy. Community College System of New Hampshire Chancellor Ross Gittell said the decision to lay off 24 full-time faculty members and not fill other positions was driven by declining enrollment numbers and an unwillingness from the system’s board of trustees to raise student tuition. But some former administrators and faculty members say the layoffs are unnecessary, and could have been avoided with more prudent spending by Gittell and the board. http://www.concordmonitor.com/home/17523577-95/faculty-students-worry-about-the-effects-of-most-recent-community-college-layoffs
