Glassman: EIU layoffs possible - JG-TC

Eastern Illinois University is considering budget cutting measures including layoffs -- but the number of potential layoffs and a list of names have not yet been compiled, President David Glassman said in an email Tuesday. Employees could begin receiving layoff notices in July, Glassman said. Glassman sent a budget update to the university community, discussing cuts in state appropriations for the university depending on how things work out with the state budget. University officials prepared the FY 2016 budget assuming a 6.5 percent cut in appropriations; that brings the university's budget deficit to between $12 million and $14 million dollars -- if no changes were to be made to university expenses as compared to last year -- with very little in supplemental funds to fix the deficit, Glassman said. http://jg-tc.com/jg-tc/glassman-eiu-layoffs-possible/article_3a1baa95-8e9c-51a3-92cf-d69cfa464e3f.html
