University of Southern Mississippi readying for $5.9 million in budget cuts - WDSU

The University of Southern Mississippi will be forced to cut its budget campus-wide due to the nearly 9 percent enrollment drop since 2011. According to a local report, Douglas Vinzant, vice president for finance and administration, said that budget cuts ordered for this fall total about $5.9 million, which is about 2.9 percent of the education and general budget of $248.7 million. Vinzant said many positions were left vacant, and about nine staffers were laid off. The Hattiesburg American said enrollment fell from nearly 16,200 in fall of 2011 to less than 14,800 in fall 2014.
