Perkins Loan Program on the federal budget chopping block - WMTV

In another fight to spread education opportunities, lawmakers on Capitol Hill are up against a pressing deadline. The latest deadline is to reauthorize the Federal Perkins Loan Program which it is set to expire at the end of the month. The program benefits thousands of lower-income students across the country who are in need of significant financial assistance. If the program isn’t reauthorized by the September 30 deadline, many students across the country will lose access to federal financial aid they use to attend colleges and universities.
