Southern Illinois University budget cuts planned because of enrollment drop, state funding - Cory Ray, Daily Egyptian

Within three weeks, finances across campus will be reviewed and cuts will be finalized because of budget concerns. SIU System President Randy Dunn announced a 3.9 percent enrollment decrease at the Carbondale campus during a press conference Tuesday, resulting in a loss of more than $5 million in funding from tuition and fees. He reported a total fall 2015 enrollment of 17,292 — a decrease in 697 students from last year. Dunn estimates a need to cut $13 to 15 million, with nearly $9 million from the Carbondale campus, in spending for this fiscal year because of the enrollment drop and proposed state funding cuts.
