Gov. Bill Walker wants a 5 percent cut to the state's higher education budget next year as Alaska continues to struggle with projected multibillion-dollar budget deficits. But some members of the University of Alaska Board of Regents say they should resist what they see as damaging cuts, which they fear might pave the way for the Legislature to make even bigger cuts.
