Budget pressures growing for UIS, other schools - Chris Dettro, SJ-R

Some vacant positions at the University of Illinois Springfield aren’t being filled, and officials are taking a hard look at any and every expenditure as the state budget impasse enters its fourth month. “All public campuses are really feeling a tremendous amount of pressure,” UIS Chancellor Susan Koch said Monday. The presidents of the state’s seven public universities last week sent a letter to Gov. Bruce Rauner and the four legislative leaders saying the budget impasse creates uncertainty on their campuses that can’t continue. Universities haven’t received any state money while the budget is in limbo, and that has left them paying for some financial aid that students ultimately may have to pay back. http://www.sj-r.com/article/20151005/NEWS/151009768
