Oklahoma's higher education officials are taking a new approach to funding in the face of a state budget shortfall projected to be as much as $1 billion next year. "We're not going to be making the pitch for significant new dollars," Chancellor Glen Johnson said Thursday during the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education annual legislative forum. Instead, officials will urge lawmakers to protect higher education dollars and "don't exact a major cut to this system," Johnson said.
