U North Dakota departments to submit 'sample budgets' to cover $5 million shortfall - Jennifer Johnson, Grand Forks Herald

UND department leaders are providing suggestions over the next few weeks on ways to eliminate the university's $5 million budget gap for 2016. An email sent Tuesday to Geology and Geological Engineering faculty members stated departments are being asked to prepare "sample budgets with 3 percent and 6 percent cuts" on all appropriated funds to cover the shortfall. In the email, associate professor Jaakko Putkonen noted one possibility was to make cuts to salaries and department spending, but staff and faculty are free to make suggestions in any way they want.
